Here's Mel & Belinda's Story

melbelinda
Ironically, the initial idea for Australia’s most stylish spa network was hatched over a humble snag. 8 years had passed since the end of high school when Mel Gleeson and Belinda Fraser ran into each other at a mutual friend’s BBQ in the year 2000. In those 8 years, both had travelled the world.
Mel had spent a year on exchange in Scotland, before returning to Melbourne to study theatrical hair and makeup. After a few years in the beauty industry, she found herself working in one of Melbourne’s very first day spas – Georges on Collins – and witnessing firsthand the appeal of a spa.
Despite the fact that few people knew what a spa was – there were then only 4 in Victoria – the spa Mel worked in was bustling. She saw the opportunity, and decided to open the Mornington Peninsula’s first spa.
Meanwhile, Belinda had completed a degree in economics at Monash University, and headed off for a stint of overseas and interstate travel. Returning to Melbourne, she got her Real Estate Agent’s licence and was working in her father’s business when she ran into Mel. Belinda’s ambition was to start a business which she could grow into a national entity.
Chatting over that snag, the ladies realised their two ideas could work together. endota spa was born.
10 years on, the distinctive endota logo is now emblazoned across 65 spa locations, an organic skincare range, a glycolic skincare range and a swathe of spa products including nail paint and accessories. endota spas are now a fixture in some of the country’s most iconic destinations, in almost every Australian state and territory, (with the exception of the Northern Territory… for now.)

The endota founders have always been strong advocates for operating an environmentally-sound, Australian made and owned business. 1% of all ‘endota spa organic’ sales are donated to Bush Heritage Australia, a foundation whose mission is to rehabilitate and preserve forever 1 million hectares of Australian bushland.
Today, Melanie and Belinda are still just as committed to the goals that saw them start endota in the first place. They set out to establish a successful business without sacrificing their home lives (between them, they now have 4 children). They wanted to create an exceptionally caring environment for endota clients, staff and franchisees. They wanted to make it possible for people to visit endota again and again by making treatment prices affordable. They were determined to deliver the utmost care to clients – through consistently professional and friendly service, and treatment ingredients made with natural, Australian ingredients. And they aimed to empower Australian women to go into business for themselves.
12 years into their business partnership, Mel and Belinda believe that ‘success’ is measured in a life well lived. And their all-Australian business makes endota staff, franchisees and clients are empowered to feel better for their involvement with endota, every day.
